My new hate...

Right now, I am fuming at the pitching of the Rox. Holy Cow, we cannot pitch, but I am not here to fume about that (it is a long season and I'll have plenty of time for that!). I want to vent about my new favorite player to hate. Now that Barry "I-didn't-know-what-they-were" Bonds is out of baseball and is just sad and pathetic, I need someone new to hate on. Lucky for me, on Saturday, he stood up and waved his hand as if to say "Oooh, pick me, pick me!"

Manny Ramirez of the Dodgers. He has everything that I hated about Barry except the steroids (which wasn't even a story when I first started hating on him). He is an above average hitter who has loads of power, seems to shine best when the Rox inept pitching is especially inept, and he is BELOW average in the field.

On Saturday the 18th of April, he did the thing that I hate the most. As a former coach of high school baseball and current coach of a bunch of 7 year-olds, I cannot stand what Manny did, it makes me cringe! There was a routine fly ball hit to Manny. A short jog in and bam, an out. But no, Manny had to showboat. He is far superior to the horrible Rockies, he couldn't be bothered with making the out, he had to make it look good, he had to show how easy it was to dispose of this inept hitter. So what did he do, he MISSED THE BALL! He flipped his glove and closed his eyes and put one hand behind his back, unfortunately he was a foot and a half to far to the right and the ball landed next to him. As a Rockie fan, I was elated, as a lover of the game and a coach I was furious! Then this multi-million dollar player this "professional", this wonder of baseball, did the unthinkable...he did the same thing a few innings later. This time he realized that he had misjudged the ball and tried to dive, with the same results!

So thank you Manny, thank you for stepping in and replacing Mr. Bonds, and here's to many years of my sitting in the left-field bleachers chanting "Maaaaannnnnyyyyy....Mmaaaannnnnnnyyyyy".

Happy #42 Day!

Today should be a National Holiday (and not just because the Rox beat the Cubs!)

Pitching...

Okay, I need to get this off my chest! What is up with the Rockies pitching coaches. I don't know what they are telling the pitchers, or what kind of routine they have the pitchers in, but it looks to me as if the pitchers are not ready to pitch when they come into a game. It takes the starters at least 2 innings to look good, and when the relievers come in they give up walks and then a big homer.

Case in point this Sunday. The Rox were leading into the 8th and in comes MannyCo (and his penciled in 'beard') and promptly gives up a double-homer-double and then settles in and does a decent job, but not until the Phils have tied the game up!

Ninth inning, Houston Street (closer extraordinaire) comes to keep us in it, and hands the Phils the win.

I know, it is only the first week of the season, but we (by we, I mean the Rox) typically have a rotten spring and then decide to play some baseball around July. If Turdle could get them to play in April and May the way they play in July and August, we could win the West hands down! Our division is so bad, that we can suck it up in the spring and still have a shot in August, if we could figure it out and play decent ball in the spring...wow, we could be 10 games up in the fall! UUGGH!
