My new hate...

Right now, I am fuming at the pitching of the Rox. Holy Cow, we cannot pitch, but I am not here to fume about that (it is a long season and I'll have plenty of time for that!). I want to vent about my new favorite player to hate. Now that Barry "I-didn't-know-what-they-were" Bonds is out of baseball and is just sad and pathetic, I need someone new to hate on. Lucky for me, on Saturday, he stood up and waved his hand as if to say "Oooh, pick me, pick me!"

Manny Ramirez of the Dodgers. He has everything that I hated about Barry except the steroids (which wasn't even a story when I first started hating on him). He is an above average hitter who has loads of power, seems to shine best when the Rox inept pitching is especially inept, and he is BELOW average in the field.

On Saturday the 18th of April, he did the thing that I hate the most. As a former coach of high school baseball and current coach of a bunch of 7 year-olds, I cannot stand what Manny did, it makes me cringe! There was a routine fly ball hit to Manny. A short jog in and bam, an out. But no, Manny had to showboat. He is far superior to the horrible Rockies, he couldn't be bothered with making the out, he had to make it look good, he had to show how easy it was to dispose of this inept hitter. So what did he do, he MISSED THE BALL! He flipped his glove and closed his eyes and put one hand behind his back, unfortunately he was a foot and a half to far to the right and the ball landed next to him. As a Rockie fan, I was elated, as a lover of the game and a coach I was furious! Then this multi-million dollar player this "professional", this wonder of baseball, did the unthinkable...he did the same thing a few innings later. This time he realized that he had misjudged the ball and tried to dive, with the same results!

So thank you Manny, thank you for stepping in and replacing Mr. Bonds, and here's to many years of my sitting in the left-field bleachers chanting "Maaaaannnnnyyyyy....Mmaaaannnnnnnyyyyy".

Until next time...
